Starting September 12, 2026, an Arizona notary must obtain the signer’s fingerprint in the notary journal when notarizing:

  • A deed 
  • A quitclaim deed 
  • A deed of trust 
  • Any other document that affects real property 
  • A power of attorney 

The signer must place their right thumbprint in the journal. If the right thumb is unavailable, the notary may use:

  1. The left thumb, or 
  2. Any available finger 

The notary must indicate in the journal which finger was used.
